About the house
Happiora is a family-run hotel and private gaming house in Edwardstown, Adelaide. We've spent fourteen years turning a tired motel into the kind of place people drive across town for — here's how, and who's behind it.
The story
From nine rooms to a full house.
No investors, no master plan — just one family fixing one building at a time, and guests who kept telling us what to build next.
The motel years. The Marchetti family buys a nine-room motel on South Road. Occupancy: optimistic. The breakfast was already good, though.
The rebuild. Gutted to the bricks. Twenty-two rooms, first version of the restaurant — a ten-table dining room locals started calling the Copper Room.
The salon opens. A licensed gaming room replaces the old function space. Four tables, one rule: everything face-to-face.
The hall & garden. The event hall opens with its own entrance, plus the garden terrace. Weddings discover us; so do offsites.
The penthouse. The top floor becomes the residence — terrace, bar cart, record player. Books out months ahead.
Thirty-eight rooms and counting. Same family, same street, same rule — the night happens here, in person.
What we believe
Hospitality is a contact sport.
Every booking site wants to remove the human. We went the other way: a desk that's always staffed, dealers who teach beginners, a chef who walks the dining room. The whole house is built around being physically, properly present.

Our biggest build — the top floor as a residence. Guests voted with their calendars: booked months out.
